...to get back on track

It has been so long since I've posted - I need to get back on track!  Life just kind of got in the way, but you know how that goes.  To follow up with my last post, this is the last pile of stuff I was able to donate to the Buffalo City Mission - all that clipping and shopping is worth it!  I have never taken stuff down there myself, but it was really easy... you actually just pull your car up and someone comes out to take it for you!

...needs to find a place to donate all of the crap I've been buying!

Lots of great deals at Rite Aid this week - I can't believe I've been missing out on shopping at this store!  It feels like they just want me to take whatever I feel like it off of the shelves without paying, because that's pretty much what happens every week...
Rite Aid transaction #1

Febreze candle $4.99 - used $2 coupon = $2.99
Maybelline great lash mascara $3.11 (40% off) - used $1 coupon= $2.11
Maybelline eyeliner $3.30 (40% off) - used $1 coupon = $2.30
Crest 3D white toothpaste $2.99 - used $1 coupon, will get back $2 rebate = free
Playtex tampons $4.00 - used $2 coupon, and $1 Rite Aid coupon = $1.00
Johnson and Johnson baby lotion $3.99 - used $1 coupon and $1 Rite Aid coupon = $2
2 Suave body lotion $1.89 each, used 2 $1 coupons = $.89 each
Used $5/$25 Rite Aid coupon and $5 rewards from last week
Total was $6.45, used gift card earned from previous skin care rebate
Earned $1.50 reward from Crest toothpaste, $1 from Maybelline, $3 from Playtex, $2 from Johnson and Johnson, $2 from Suave, $1 from Febreze = All of the above for free and $4.05 moneymaker!

Because the deals were so great this week (and I had time), I made a trip to a different Rite Aid not far from my house and hit the motherload! :)

Rite Aid transaction #2

Scott toilet paper 12 pack $6.99 - used $1 coupon = $5.99
3 Febreze soy candles $2.74 (75% off!!) - used 3 $2 coupons = $.74 each
2 Febreze reed diffusers $2.74 (75% off!!) - used 2 $2 coupons = $.74 each
Glade reed diffuser $2.49 (75% off) - used $2 coupon = $.49 each
2 Nivea lip balm (not pictured) $2.99 B1G1 50% off - used $2/2 coupon = $1.24 each
Used $5/25 Rite Aid coupon (this comes off of the pre-coupon total) and $9.50 in rewards from previous transaction
Total = $.16
Earned $2 rewards from Scott, $2 rewards from Nivea
So all of the above was free, and on top of that a $3.84 moneymaker!
That leaves me with $5 rewards to work with for next week!

Leave me a comment if you would like to lay claim to any of my great drugstore finds (except for the candles and diffusers - I love a great smelling house :) and I will be happy to share.  Also, let me know if you hear of any organizations that need donations like this!

...To maintain her sanity

I took a few days off of shopping this week - I just needed some time away from coupons, driving from store to store and grouchy cashiers.  But off I went today for a quick stop, since I couldn't pass up this deal...
Walgreen's

2 Dulcolax balance $8.49 used 2 $8 off coupons and 2 $2 Walgreens coupons = $3.02 moneymaker (these will be donated, but I couldn't pass them up - I got paid to buy them!)
2 Quaker Oats oatmeal 2/$5 used 2 $1 coupons = $3 (earned $2 rewards, so really only $1)
Carmex lip balm $3.29 (earned $2 rewards, bought this as a filler to use up some of the overage from the Dulcolax)
2 Trident $1 each used $1 Walgreens coupon = $1

Total = 4.27 but earned $4 rewards to use on my next order
$.27 for all of the above... not too shabby!

Headed off to the Peach Festival for the rest of the day, but there are lots of good deals to be had with the new sales starting tomorrow... stay tuned!

...a shopping break, but who can stay away from these deals?

Another quick stop at Tops this morning (I'm a sucker for the double dollar coupons)
Bought 2 Yogos fruit snacks $2/5 used $1/2 coupon and doubler coupon = $3 (plus they have the codes inside for a free movie pass when you collect 5)
Juicy juice boxes $2 used $1 coupon when you buy 2 fruit snacks and a doubler coupon = free
Lance sandwich crackers $2 used $1 coupon and a doubler coupon = free
Swiffer febreeze furniture spray $3.49 used $1 coupon and a doubler coupon =$1.49 (this is one thing I would pay full price for because the lavender vanilla kind makes my whole house smell so good!)
Total cost = $4.49 (plus half of a free movie :)
Rite Aid
I was so excited yesterday because I received a rebate in the mail from Rite Aid I have been waiting forever for... it was from a previous deal I did - get $30 in gift cards when you spend $50 on Skin Care products.  I ended up getting the skin care stuff pretty much for free, so the gift cards were a bonus!  I am excited to use them so I don't have to use anything out of pocket and I am curious to see how much stuff I can get for free with them.  Today this was what I bought:
Listerine mouthwash $3.99 used $1 coupon and $1 Rite Aid coupon and qualifies for $15 gift card back when you spend $25 on oral care = $1.99
Colgate Toothpaste $1.50 used $.75 coupon also qualifies for the oral care rebate
2 Nivea Men body wash $3.00 used 2 $1 coupons =$2 each
2 Pepsi max used 1 B1G1 free coupon and 1 Rite Aid B1G1 free coupon = free
Boudreaux's Butt Paste $3.99 used $1 coupon and Rite Aid $3 coupon = free
Nivea lip smoothie $2.99 used $1 coupon will submit for $1 rebate = .99
Makeup - 2 eyeshadows, eyeliner, lipgloss, eye makeup remover, nail polish $1.99 each B1G1 free used $5/$10 coupon = $.97 for all 6 items!
Used $4/20 Rite Aid coupon  Total came to $5.79
Earned $4 in rewards off of my next purchase, so total really came to $1.79 for all of the above!  And that doesn't even include the rebates :)  I used to hate shopping at Rite Aid before I learned how to use coupons, now I wonder how they even stay open with deals like these!

...to not be lectured

I made a quick trip to Tops today after work and bought the following...
2 Frigo string cheese $4.99 B1G1 free used 2 $1 coupons and 2 doubler coupons = $.99
2 Wheat thins 2/$5 used 2 $1 coupons and 2 doubler coupons = $1
for some reason my total only came to $.99
(FYI: the coupons are technically only supposed to be on shopping orders of $15 or more.  I have never had a cashier who has cared but today I got in the line of a woman who was hoping for cashier of the month or something.  She lectured me for 5 minutes on their coupon policy, but let me do it anyway, so whatever...)

...to find a new hobby other than shopping

I got lots of good deals today, although it is such a pain to get myself organized before hitting the stores.  And don't even get me started on the dirty looks other customers shoot my way when they see my huge pile of coupons, but I digress... Tops is my favorite store this week - Double Dollar Coupons!!  10 years ago I never would have believed this could be so exciting - ahh, how things change... I used to look forward to "80's night" at Rumour's night club, and now I am thrilled to save an extra dollar.  Oh well... anyway - My shopping trips for today:

Tops shopping trip #1

2 Rice Krispie treats $2/5 - used $1/2 coupon and doubler coupon = $3
(I don't normally eat these, but plan on drizzling them with chocolate for a camping trip this weekend - plus they have "tokens" on them for a free movie pass when you collect 5)
Italian Bread  $1.50 - used coupon I found in the store for $2 off bread when you buy 2 Rice Krispie treats = + .50
Sprite 2 liter  $1.50 - used $.50 coupon that doubled = $.50
2 PopSecret popcorn  $2.89 B1G1 free - used $1/2 and a doubler coupon = $.89
Smoothie Kits (found in the produce section)  $2.99 B1G1 free - used 2 $1 coupons and a doubler coupon = free
Toll House refridgerator cookies $2.50 - used $1 coupon and a doubler coupon = $.50
Baking cups = $.79
Home grown tomato (for a tomato sandwich -yum!) and pepper (for some hummus I bought yesterday) =  $1.42
Total for all 12 items was only $8.20! (before savings price was $27.58)

Target shopping trip

Tide Stain release (I am hooked on this stuff, it makes the laundry smell sooo good!) $3.99 - used $1.50 Target coupon and $1 coupon = $1.49
2 Tide detergent (single load found in trial section) $.99 used 2 $1 coupons with no size exceptions = free
2 Rite Guard deodorant (trial size) $.82 - used $1.50/2 with no size exceptions = $.14
6 Whiskas cat food $.57 - used 3 B1G1 free coupons = $1.71
Now, do you see that super cute cooler tote in the back?  This is where my shopping trip went astray...which happens EVERY time I walk into Target.  Target, why must you force me to spend money at your wonderful store?  I "talked" myself into buying it because I would "need" it for camping this weekend and I would "need" it for adventures with the kids... anyway, because of this cute addition my shopping adventure went from $2.12 to $20.27.  It's really cute though, right?

Walmart shopping trip

Oh, how I dread shopping at Walmart... but sometimes with the deals they have I can't stay away.
2 Skintimate and 2 Edge shaving gels (all came with a free razor too :) $2.24 used 4 $1 coupons = $1.24 each
Lysol Neutra Air - on rollback for $6 used $4 coupon = $2
Airwick Freshmatic - on rollback for $6 used $4 coupon = $2
Nivea lotion $5.97 used $3 coupon = $2.97 (more than I would normally pay, but a good deal for Nivea, plus I love this lotion and am almost out of it)
Tucks pads $2.74 used $3 coupon = $.26 moneymaker (No, they are not for me!  Haha :)  I will put these with my donation pile... besides I got paid to buy them!)
5 PostIt pads $1 used 5 $1 coupons = free (will also donate these)
2 Clean and Clear facewash trial size $.97 - used 2 $1 coupons = $.06 moneymaker
2 Degree deodorant trial size $.97 - used 2 $1 coupons = $.06 moneymaker
10 Whiskas cat food $.55 used 5 B1G1 free coupons = $.27 each
3 Dole Mandarin oranges $.78 each used $1/3 coupon = $.45 each
3 Dole pineapple $.72 each used $1/3 coupon = $.39 each
Total at Walmart = $16.95 (before savings price was $52.43)

Those toothbrushes in the front were purchased at Rite Aid last night...
$2.49 each  used a B1G1 free coupon (that took off $3.49 for some reason) and a $1 coupon =  $.49 for both, plus I will get back $1 from Rite Aid's single rebate checks and these apply to their rebate for a $5 gift card when you spend $15 on dental products)

Family Dollar shopping trip

Wisk is on sale this week at Family Dollar for $4 - bought 2 and used 2 $3 coupons from this week's newspaper - 2 bottles of laundry detergent for $2 - not bad!

After all that shopping, I headed off to Dunkin' Donuts for a pick-me-up and got my free iced coffee with the card I got in the paper this week (free medium coffee on Wednesdays)... now give me a good reason not to use coupons!

...to win!

Something is going on because I never win anything...ever...never...  This week alone I have won 2 giveaways on blogs I like!  A $25 gas gift card from thecoupongoddess.blogspot.com and a $10 Shutterfly gift card from givemeneither.com!  I feel like I should buy a lottery ticket or head out to the casino... Anyway, entering giveaways on blogs is super easy and obviously easy to win - take it from me!  Mel at thecoupongoddess.blogspot.com is hosting a $60 gift card giveaway right now that only lasts a few days, so chances are good!  Go check it out!  Fingers crossed...

...to prepare

I saw a good deal on a blog I like to follow hip2save.com for 100 free business cards with free shipping.  I thought - wow, that's a good deal, but what would I do with business cards?  I found lots with really cool designs, but ended up choosing a plain card with pretty black swirls and writing:  Merry Christmas!  To: From: Jessica and Jonathan - I'm sure that 100 gift cards will come in handy when wrapping Christmas presents this year - especially when they are free!  To check out this deal (only good until 9/1), go to zazzle.com, order 100 business cards worth $16.95 and use the code ZAZSHIPSFREE (don't forget to change shipping to economy free shipping too!)

...to spoil other people's children

With no children to call my own, I enjoy borrowing other people's kids for the day.  Today I "borrowed" Hannah for what we refer to as an "adventure" and headed off to the Buffalo Zoo...
That's Hannah - isn't she the cutest thing ever?!  Yes, she is eating a sucker at 9 o'clock in the morning - when we go on "adventures" anything goes!
We met up with Emily and Nolan at the Zoo - it was a cool and balmy 93 degrees in Buffalo today - ugh!

After 3 hot, sticky hours at the zoo, Hannah wanted to know where we were going next :)  Home to take a nap, that's where!  That's the most beautiful part of "adventures" with other people's kids - I get to give them whatever they want for a short time, then drop them off and go home to nap the rest of the afternoon away...

...to have fun

Kathy, Me, Kelly, Jen and Mel (from left to right)

A few weeks ago, my girlfriends and I went out to celebrate Kathy's birthday... I won't tell if those big smiles are from the great time we were having or the many (yummy) cocktails :)

...to celebrate!

Yesterday was my husband's birthday!  The only thing he wanted was for me to cook his favorite dinner - Grandma's homemade macaroni and cheese, broccoli and meatloaf that he swears is the best he's ever tasted.  I would have chosen a nice restaurant myself, but I guess that's a compliment :)  Here is the recipe for the meatloaf I made that is quick, easy and delicious!

"BEST EVER" MEATLOAF

2 eggs
2/3 cup milk
3 slices of bread
1/2 cup chopped onion
4 oz. shredded cheese (I like to use cheddar)
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 1/2 pounds of lean ground beef

Topping:
1/2 cup tomato sauce
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon of mustard

Preheat oven at 350 degrees.  Beat the eggs and milk.  Add torn pieces of bread and let stand until the bread absorbs the liquid (I also beat the bread into the egg/milk mixture to combine it really well).  Stir in the onion and cheese.  Add the ground beef and mix well (hands work well for this part).  Shape into a loaf.
Combine the topping ingredients and spoon over the meatloaf after about 20 minutes and continue to spoon over mealoaf every 10 minutes while it is cooking.  This delicious meatloaf will be ready after 45 minutes.

I am generally not a big fan of meatloaf (and actually just decided to go vegetarian again), but this one is really yummy!  Using fresh bread keeps it very moist and there is plenty for leftovers.  Let me know what you think!
